You can save a life. Suicide intervention training opportunity: ASIST™

You can save a life. Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects people of all ages. You can help prevent suicide in our community by knowing the facts, warning signs and where to get help. To address this crisis, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center is providing an intervention training for individuals in a variety of roles to learn to recognize the signs of risk and the techniques to help those contemplating suicide. The Center is pleased to offer Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training™ (ASIST™).

ASIST™ is an award winning two-day interactive workshop that prepares participants to provide life-assisting suicide first-aid intervention.

ASIST participants will be able to:

  • Identify people who have thoughts of suicide
  • Understand how beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide interventions
  • Listen to the story of a person with thoughts of suicide and recognize turning points that connect that person to life
  • Conduct safety assessment, develop a safe plan, and confirm safety actions to be carried out
